Please Fly Away..

Description

I love being able to save little creatures - my cat's brought in a lot of mice and birds over the years that we've nursed back to health. The feeling of relief and happiness when they scamper back into the bushes or fly to the treetops is unbeatable!
But not everything can be so lucky. When I was 5, my friend and I rescued a bird from a big ginger tom cat. We looked after it in a little cardboard box, but it was so injured there was nothing we could do and it soon died.

Yesterday my dad saw this pretty cabbage white butterfly flutter straight into the web of a huge spider, and he (being a massive animal lover) gently pulled it free. It wasn't moving, probably stunned. I took it in my hands and wished it would be okay and beat its little wings, but it never stirred. I just sat it on my fingers and held it to the sky, before taking these photos to capture its beauty before it wasted away. We put it to rest in a patch of flowers.

Some people might think it's weird to feel an attachment to tiny creatures, but I've always valued even the smallest lives and always want to help however I can. I know there was nothing I could have done, but I do feel bad for the loss of such a pretty thing that was full of life one second and just a shell the next. Life is so precious; don't waste a second of it.

Disclaimer for those "that's just life" comments: I know! Perhaps my dad was wrong for stealing a spider's meal, but that spider had a web full of flies already. The food web is so important, and creatures have to die to sustain others, but sometimes as humans with consciences we can't help but intervene out of empathy for the 'victim'. Call us sensitive and sentimental if we see it as our duty to help them - because yes we are, and if our soppiness saves a little life occasionally we're not gonna be ashamed of that!

I agree to everything u said, and even when I'm not witnessing it I can almost feel the deaths of even the smallest creatures! It's sad really. But, unfortunately, it's the way things are. The circle of life. Me and my dad love animals as well, a lot of which we see in our day-day lives but often we humans waist it! It's truly sad how so many people waist so much of their lives!
